005 - Action/Voice
[Today marked a big day for Teddy Altman: He's eighteen today. If he were back in New York, he could vote in elections, own a credit/debit card of his own, and not have to groan over papers and applications that had a little note for people who were under eighteen. He's pretty much an adult now.
He still kind of feels like a young teenager who has no idea what he's doing, though, so he can't help being a little disappointed when he wakes up and doesn't suddenly feel like a man with a plan who knows everything and can do anything.
After gently being coaxed outside by Billy, Teddy decides to do all the things he usually does, seeing how Luceti is sorely lacking in ways to celebrate a milestone year like this. He wanders and chats up store owners, from the bakery to the weapon shop to Seventh Heaven to even the general store. He gets himself a large meal for lunch, as is customary for a guy like him, and orders his favorite just for today. He visits the library and reads up on whatever new comics they have, and that's where he gets lost in thought enough to open his journal and ask a question that's been on his mind since the day began.]
When someone turns eighteen, do they do anything special? It's a pretty big thing for teenagers in America; you can vote and get drafted and pretty much be considered an adult by the law. But does it mean anything in other worlds? Call me curious.
[He goes to the Battledome after that to simulate a basketball game – just to watch this time, not to participate. The 1992 East Regional Final, Duke verses Kentucky, one of the most suspenseful games in history and something that Teddy had watched on YouTube, but certainly not like this. It's no wonder that he's particularly hyped when he walks out. So much so that he takes to the sky as soon as he's outside, deciding that he'd rather take the joyride home rather than plain old walking. He's still a teenager, and he still feels pretty invincible even without that adult knowledge he was expecting, so why not?
Teddy might not feel any different, but it's still a pretty special day.]

[action]
[Yep, he's already reaching out to pull it towards him. Snickers is only like his favorite candy bar in all the worlds ever, so a giant one... Holy shit.]
[action]
[Billy gives the bar a meaningful prod.]
Go on, blow out the candles before they get wax all over the top.
[action]
Teddy looks up from the bar, eyebrow raised.]
Oh no, not yet. Don't think you can escape singing the Birthday song, Kaplan.
[action]
Happy Birthday to you,
Happy Birthday to you,
Happy Birthday dear Tee-bear,
Happy Birthday to you!
[The nickname is his quiet rebellion, deal with it.]
[action]
After the nickname, though, Teddy lets out a snort before he hangs his head to hide his grin, fingers against his hairline. Tee-bear, really?]
Okay, okay, I get it. [Subtle retaliation, he sees it.
Now that Billy's done, though, Teddy lifts his head, takes in a breath, and blows out the candles easily. Eighteen years old, and he's still doing dorky things like this.]
[action]
I'm gonna get a knife to cut it, so feel free to pick away at it if you want. It'll only be a minute.
[After that he wanders off to the counter, chatting briefly with the server before hopping over to raid the kitchen for a knife, a cup of steaming water, and a towel, with which he will return in a minute.]
[action]
Except he's a shape-shifter, so.
When Billy comes back, the end of the bar is already bitten off, and Teddy is chewing the last few bitefuls with his eyes shut with pleasure. At least Billy didn't have to see just how he managed to get that large of a bite from the bar.]
[action]
I should've known better than to leave you two alone. Maybe I ought to forget about the knife and just let you go at it.
[action]
Yeah, sorry, I'm leaving you for the Snickers bar. [And as he pushes the bar forward,] Unless you want to make it a threesome.
[action]
A strange suggestion, coming from you. Wouldn't you implode from jealousy when I bond with it instead?
[He eats the mouthful and then takes his sweet time sucking the chocolate off his fingers, lifting a brow. He knows how Teddy gets when he feels threatened, after all.]
[action]
...
Oh. Oh, right. Banter.]
... It's different when it's an inanimate object. I mean, why do you think your cape's still alive?
[He nods matter-of-factly. But... y e a h, Billy's totally got Teddy down to a T.]
Besides, I know Reese's is your one true love. That's the one I've got to worry about.
[action]
[And that better not have been a threat against his cape because that is his one true love above all
fine fine except for Teddy.][action]
But he'd rather not reveal the plans he's making for that time. Instead, he glances down at the fingers Billy was sucking on, a little smirk coming up on his face.]
Well, I hope that won't be all you dream of tonight...
[Remember that coffee comment you made that is a yes]
[action]
Well, if you've got better ideas, feel free to inspire me later. For now, though, I think the knife is hot enough to cut it.
[He pulls it out of the water and wipes it down with the towel; sure enough, it feels pretty toasty. He offers it out to Teddy in case he wants to help himself.]
So, birthday boy, how much of it do you want? Half? Three-Quarters? Or do I just get a couple crumbs off the end?
[action]
[Teddy grins as he takes the knife, then sets to work on cutting the chocolate bar - with the knife heated up, plus Teddy's strength, it's easy to cut through everything and not make a mess of anything. And though Teddy would like a big chunk for himself to gnaw on for the rest of the day, he instead cuts it into slices, as if it really was one big cake. And with how easily he's cutting it, you'd think it was as easy as slicing a cake, too.
Once he's done, he gestures to a few of the slices with one hand while he grabs one of said slices with the other.]
Go on, eat as much as you want. You really did an amazing job on this, you know.
[action]
[Billy grins, dragging a slice onto a plate to pick away at it. From the amount of caramel and chocolate in the thing, he's pretty sure he will be full with just one slice, which makes for plenty of leftovers for Teddy to enjoy later. In that case, he figures it counts for Present #2 well enough.]
I'm glad it's good, though. I've never done it before, so I had no idea how it was gonna turn out. But hey, can't go wrong with chocolate, right?
[action]
Mm. [He waits until he swallows before he speaks up.] Right. Except for those off-brand chocolate companies; those aren't so great. Did you keep the recipe? [And BITE.]
[action]
At least he's used to Teddy's appetite...]
Of course I did. Typed up with in-progress photos, even. But we have to use this newfound power responsibly. There are those among us who can't veer off the diet so much and still fit into our skin-tight costumes.
[At least not without... erm... certain repercussions. Of the bulging-folds sort.]
[action]
"With great power, comes great responsibility."
[action]
Pretty much that, yeah. Plus it did take up a lot of ingredients. I'd hate to cause a chocolate shortage in Luceti.
[action]
[Another bite, a moment of pondering, and:]
You can be like, "Witch Doctor".
[action]
This face.]
Why are all my code names drenched in either innuendo or potential offensiveness?
[action]
I was thinking more Doctor Doom but, you know, witch. I thought it was clever...
