005 - Action/Voice

[Today marked a big day for Teddy Altman: He's eighteen today. If he were back in New York, he could vote in elections, own a credit/debit card of his own, and not have to groan over papers and applications that had a little note for people who were under eighteen. He's pretty much an adult now.

He still kind of feels like a young teenager who has no idea what he's doing, though, so he can't help being a little disappointed when he wakes up and doesn't suddenly feel like a man with a plan who knows everything and can do anything.

After gently being coaxed outside by Billy, Teddy decides to do all the things he usually does, seeing how Luceti is sorely lacking in ways to celebrate a milestone year like this. He wanders and chats up store owners, from the bakery to the weapon shop to Seventh Heaven to even the general store. He gets himself a large meal for lunch, as is customary for a guy like him, and orders his favorite just for today. He visits the library and reads up on whatever new comics they have, and that's where he gets lost in thought enough to open his journal and ask a question that's been on his mind since the day began.]

When someone turns eighteen, do they do anything special? It's a pretty big thing for teenagers in America; you can vote and get drafted and pretty much be considered an adult by the law. But does it mean anything in other worlds? Call me curious.

[He goes to the Battledome after that to simulate a basketball game – just to watch this time, not to participate. The 1992 East Regional Final, Duke verses Kentucky, one of the most suspenseful games in history and something that Teddy had watched on YouTube, but certainly not like this. It's no wonder that he's particularly hyped when he walks out. So much so that he takes to the sky as soon as he's outside, deciding that he'd rather take the joyride home rather than plain old walking. He's still a teenager, and he still feels pretty invincible even without that adult knowledge he was expecting, so why not?

Teddy might not feel any different, but it's still a pretty special day.]

Oh, is it your birthday? Congratulations?

I guess in England it's pretty customary to go out and buy your first legal drinks. That's what I did anyway. And have my first legal hangover the next day.

I don't understand why this turning eighteen is so special to begin with. Earthlings in my world also have this ridiculous notion that it's important, but I can tell you now teenagers are still teenagers until they finally grow up and be a man or woman. If that ever happens at all.

[Not old and bitter, not this guy.]

Well, your eighteenth birthday is the day when you make your first blood sacrifice to the Dark Ones in the hope that they'll accept your offering and not take your soul to the Shadowed Realms that they rule over to serve them in endless torment.

It's a pretty entertaining day, all things said. Good food.

Hey, if you want to take chances with your immortal soul, it's none of my business. I think the usual is like... a pint or so.
misterbrief: (Oh look two androids.)

Make some sense of yourself. Stuttering isn't exactly very becoming when making first impressions, now is it? [NO REASON FOR TEDDY TO BE SCARED OF HIM RIGHT? WHY WOULD ANYONE HAVE A REASON FOR THAT]
voiceinthedark: (Just happy)

Yeah! It's eighteen in the UK. Or was eighteen. I don't think anyone really cares these days.

And nah, no-one's surprised at all. People try stuff all the time.
abjurer: (That is so cool)

Mmm, about that, yeah. And I'm on pretty good terms with the Dark Ones myself. Have a Midnight Ritual every Wednesday.
sixwayheart: (This is Moe)

Man I have no idea if you're cool with it but I have literally no threads with her so I am replying

[personal profile] sixwayheart 2013-08-27 11:47 pm (UTC)(link)
[Well here's a milestone for eighteen, you can register yourself with a robot.

You know, if you talk to her.

Heart currently isn't in any mode, so she's in relatively neutral clothing and really she's once more replying her memories that she has from the time in the other life, odd, now that she's removed from the emotions of it all. And while she might not be a store owner or anything, she is just standing in the middle of the general store, not really touching anything and frankly, not really looking around. Just... standing there, possibly in the way and definitely spacing out]

It's all about finding a ritual that you believe in, in the end. Once met a woman who turned making afternoon tea into a pretty powerful ritual spell casting.

Ah, the usual. Candles and incense, some menacing chanting. Crushed velvet robes.

Seriously. Especially when I'm pretty sure everyone sees their parents drinking, and hell, sometimes their teachers drinking.

[Worst choice for a favorite Teddy, worst.]

Hmf. Vegeta, Prince of all Saiyans. It would be best if you remember that, boy. [What did he say his name was? Teddy? What kind of name is that? No matter.]

Anyway. Honestly, this whole birthday business isn't important at all and I'm not sure why so many are concerned with it. It's truly only one step closer to a day where this mortal coil will be long lost.

Happy Birthday first of all!

And I just turned eighteen myself last month in Luceti and I kinda just celebrated it with close friends.

[Also known as... she spent it with the grumps that she lives with.]

Also, I hope you're having cake today. It's not your birthday without cake!

[The camera is obscured - or showing something bland like the ceiling - since Billy is off-screen bustling around to get stuff done before he finishes up the birthday stuff. But the question just begs a response, and he's almost done anyway...]

I think the obvious answer is to pick up some hard liquor and cigars and just go to town for the night. Strippers or prostitutes jumping out of birthday cakes are optional.
sixwayheart: (Pyramid Scheme)

Excellent

[Too quickly, the woman turns to face the young man. She's still got the blank expression on her face and her voice is actually pretty monotone, even by her unmode'd standards. Of course she would be thrilled to have a user, but... she's still playing through her memories as she goes through the start of phrase:]

Are you are least eighteen years old?
