004 - Action/Voice
[Action]
[Although Teddy didn't go on the draft, he knew plenty of friends who did. Once he was certain they were all accounted for, though some had gone through some heavy losses, he felt like he could relax a little. And with relaxation, it dawned on him that he hadn't really practiced his shifting ability in a while. Sure, there was his Hulkling form, but he knew that one. Knew it inside and out. What about others?
This is why he sits by the edge of the fountain, homework and pencil in hand, though he doesn't work so much as watch people over the top of the page. He's inconspicuous about it, as this is a hobby he's developed for some time now.
And when he's sure he's not in anyone's range of vision, he transforms, shifting into the form of the person he's got his eyes on. That's when he stops watching them and looks down at the body he's impersonating, just to study the shape, occasionally glancing up to make sure he has everything right. Even when the person's left, he still stays in that form for a few long moments before he shifts back, writing his answers in his homework once he's satisfied with the shape he's in.
Observe, learn, shift, hold. This is what he's learned over the years, though it's been a while since he's done this for selfless reasons. Just for practice, nothing more.]
[Voice]
[It's sunset and he's still outside, though he appears to be walking back home. There's just one thing on his mind, something that occurred to him while shifting.]
Anyone up for playing b-ball sometime? It's been way too long since I actually got to play against someone. Holograms just don't really cut it, you know?
[He would suggest football, but, well. When you've got the ability to possibly break someone in half with a good tackle, that probably isn't the best sport to go for.]

There's a faint, almost proud smile on her face as she comes over and takes a seat next to Teddy, looking away as she does over to whomever is wearing the same face as Teddy is] The nose isn't quite right, and the jaw needs to be slightly more sharper.
[action]
[And for a moment he wonders how she does it, though he answers his own question when "Skrull, duh" goes through his head. He'd only really discovered his own shapeshifting abilities when he was barely a preteen, after all; Xavin had her entire life.
At the advice, Teddy blinks, looks at the girl - Haruhi, yes - and rubs at his own chin.]
Oh, you're right. [When he pulls his hand away, his jaw is indeed sharper, and his nose shapes out to be a little more slender.
Anime types are even harder to shift into]You caught that way faster than I did.
[action]
I have had a lot more practice then you. My father began teaching me when I was quite young, and I spent lessons on it daily until I had mastered it. Copying a body is easy now, creating a new one can be more difficult.
[Her female form for example had taken months. Months of slow alterations here or there and close observation to see what Karolina seemed to like best. After all, this was a body for her beloved, at least it had been so in the beginning]
You're doing ok, for the level you seem to be at. [which would be shockingly behind for a Skrull]
[action]
He lets out a light snort, instinctively pushes a few locks of hair behind his ear. Wow, he is so not used to longer hair.]
And what level is that? One? [He's mostly thinking in terms of Pokemon and Final Fantasy here.]
[action]
A beginner, yes. But you were raised with your true identity secret, one could not expect you to be of a similar level to others. [She has no idea what those are Teddy why] But you can still catch up if you train often and hard.
[action]
I only actually found out about my powers when I was around twelve or so, and that made me think I was a mutant, not a half Skrull. I... "trained" pretty hard after that, but probably not as much as you guys did.
[His training was more about discovering his powers, seeing how well he could shift, try to get better. It evolved into picking out things people found appealing about others and applying them to himself, wanting desperately to get some attention and approval. Of course, now that he's with the Young Avengers, he's accepted who he is and what he looks like.
But it's still a little hard to completely forget about that time of his life.]
[action]
I suppose it would seem more likely that you were a genetic mutation over someone not even human... [A pause, with a low hum] Have you worked on inanimate objects? Animals? Or just humans?
[Those are skills all Skrulls learn too, though with time it's become more common to imitate humans. It's easier to learn things as a human, then as any other, though at least the ability to change into a lampshade helps when you're trying to hide out. But Xavin doubts Teddy's considered them. Humans seem to forget those things, and he has been raised as one]
[action]
Animals? Yeah, actually. A few times. [He did sort of save Professor Layton by transforming into a smilodon to chase off another one. But then he frowns and glances off to the side.] They're really hard to change into. I studied a lot of biology and anatomy in school and out, but I can never change completely into an animal without it getting weird.
... And I didn't even know we could change into inanimate objects. Wouldn't that... I don't know, kill you?
[action]
You have? Well that's a start. [Though that look away means it didn't work well, she assumes] Well the biology does not need to be exact, as long as you change enough to resemble the creature. For creatures like cows, you really don't need to bother with all the extra organs, just ensure that you can resemble a cow, and move like a cow.
[A small glance away] If a broken neck cannot kill us, why would that? Obviously you cannot make an exceedingly small item, but as long as the item is no less then 75 percent of your own mass it should be successful. I've heard some have trained enough to get down to 50.
[action]
[He bites the inside of his cheek to keep himself from laughing, because dear lord, the mental image that the words "skrull cow" give him. But it's nice to know, the fact that he doesn't necessarily have to shift himself entirely. Probably just the bones, and decrease the size of his internal organs, and of course the features that make up the animal itself.
Thankfully, Teddy manages to calm himself down once they get to inanimate objects, and instead he looks at Xavin to pay close attention - though the movement of his head makes him have to brush his hair out of his face again.]
So, I... guess your organs have to go somewhere in said, uh... object. [Which, oh god, has the potential to be gross. Opening a washing machine and finding a lung or something, ew.]
[action]
[She doesn't get what's funny Teddy. It's just an animal, not too much bigger then most humans. A good example in her opinion. And one that wouldn't require too many changes internally.
She frowns just slightly, lines appearing on her forehead] Well yes. But for example, say you became a houseplant. As long as you externally resemble that plant nobody is going to be digging in to the internal.
[A tiny shrug] I must confess it was not an area I looked into much. My father saw training to be a Super Skrull as having more importance.
[action]
Does that mean we're both going to have to train for it? [Because in the list of things Teddy actually wants to practice his shapeshifting on, objects are not one of them, even if it might be sort of kind of useful.]
[action]
We could. But it is rare amongst our generation. It would be more beneficial for you to learn the abilities of a Super Skrull. [A pause for consideration] Your destiny makes you a target, and it would be best for you to know all that you could.
You should also learn Skrullos soon.
